- Seven Pillars of Wisdom: This is one of the most famous rock formations in Wadi Rum, named by T.E. Lawrence in his book “Seven Pillars of Wisdom.” While it’s a prominent sight, it’s actually located near the Wadi Rum Visitor Center.
- Lawrence’s Spring (Ain Abu Aineh): A natural spring perched high on a rock face. A short hike up offers a stunning panoramic view of the desert landscape and the surrounding mountains.
- The spring is named after T.E. Lawrence, who is said to have visited it during the Great Arab Revolt. Sand Dunes: There are several large, magnificent red sand dunes in Wadi Rum. These are stops for walking, climbing to the top for a view, and trying out sandboarding.
- The sunset from a high sand dune is an unforgettable experience. Khazali Canyon: This narrow canyon, known as a “siq,” is a fascinating place to explore. The walls of the canyon are filled with ancient Nabatean and Thamudic rock inscriptions and petroglyphs, depicting human and animal figures that are thousands of years old.
- Rock Bridges: Wadi Rum is known for its beautiful natural rock bridges. Some of the most famous are: Um Frouth Rock Bridge: A relatively easy and quick climb to the top for a great photo opportunity.
- Burdah Rock Bridge: A much higher and more challenging climb that requires a guide and is typically reserved for more extended tours. Lawrence’s House: The ruins of a stone building, often believed to be the house where T.E. Lawrence stayed during his time in the desert. While the ruins themselves are not particularly spectacular, the location offers a great viewpoint. Al-Hasany Sand Dunes: Also known as the “Red Sand Dunes,” this is a large area of vibrant red sand. It’s a favorite spot for many tours due to its striking color and ideal setting for photos.
- Little Bridge: A smaller, more accessible rock bridge that is easy to climb and provides a great view of the surrounding area.
- Sunset and Sunrise Spots: The desert light at dawn and dusk creates a magical atmosphere. Tours often include a stop at a specific location to watch the sunset over the desert, which is a highlight for many visitors.
- The number of places you can visit depends on the length of your tour (a 2-hour tour will cover fewer spots than a 4-hour tour or a 6-hour tour). Most tours will prioritize key highlights, such as the dunes, rock bridges, and Khazali Canyon.
- Short Tours (2 hours)
These tours are ideal for a quick visit, often for those on a tight schedule or who want to spend more time relaxing at a Bedouin camp. The focus is on the most famous and accessible sites near the village. Lawrence’s Spring (Ain Abu Aineh): A natural spring nestled in the rocks, offering a panoramic view of the desert. The spring is named after T.E. Lawrence and is an excellent spot for a photo op. You’ll usually have a short, easy scramble up to the viewpoint. Red Sand Dune: An enormous dune of deep red sand piled up against a mountain. This is a popular stop for sandboarding, running down the dune, and taking photos. Khazali Canyon: A narrow slot canyon where you can walk for a short distance. Its walls are covered with ancient Nabataean inscriptions and petroglyphs, offering a glimpse into the history of the caravans that once passed through here.
